Why 5 amps is the right number for one car
The working guideline is that charge current around 10% of the battery's amp-hour capacity gives a comfortable charge. A typical passenger-car battery is 45-70 Ah, so 5 amps sits right in that band. In practical terms, a battery at half charge needs roughly 30 Ah replaced, which is about seven hours at 5 A once you allow for charging inefficiency — an overnight job. The full arithmetic is here.
Going to 10 amps halves that, which sounds better and mostly is not: overnight is already fast enough for a car sitting in a driveway, and gentler current is easier on an ageing battery. Where 10 A earns its place is several vehicles or a deep-cycle bank — the GENIUS10.
Three published specs that matter more than they look
The -4 °F operating rating. Most of this work happens in an unheated garage or a driveway in winter, which is exactly when batteries fail. A charger with a published cold rating is a charger you can actually use then.
The 77-inch DC cable. That is over six feet of lead from the unit to the clamps, which reaches from a wall outlet to most engine bays without an extension cord. It sounds trivial until you are a foot short in a cold garage at 10 pm.

The 6 V mode is not a gimmick
6 V batteries still appear on classic vehicles, some garden tractors and various older equipment, and a 12 V-only charger simply cannot serve them. If there is anything pre-1960s or agricultural in your life, dual-voltage is the feature that stops you buying a second charger.
